The Cover Girls

The Cover Girls are a New York City-based freestyle\pop group. The group was formed by music promoter Sal Abbatiello.

The original line-up consisted of Louise Sabater (aka Angel Clivillés), Caroline Jackson, and Sunshine Wright.
In 1987, the group released their well-known debut album, "Show Me" which peaked at #64 on the Billboard 200 chart and #74 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
Their first single, "Show Me" peaked at #44 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May of 1987, #4 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart in March of 1987, #4 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart, and #34 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart in April of 1987, staying on the chart for 14 weeks.
The second single from the album, "Spring Love" peaked at #98 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #82 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart in August of 1987, staying on the chart for 6 weeks.
The third single, "Because of You" peaked at #27 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February of 1988, #16 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart in November of 1987, #8 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart, and #47 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart in December of 1987, staying on the chart for 14 weeks.

The fourth single from the album, "Promise Me" peaked at #40 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May of 1988.
The fourth and last single from the album, "Inside Outside" peaked at #55 on the Billboard Hot 100 in August of 1988, #21 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart, and #12 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart in September of 1988.

During that same year, Sunshine Wright left the group and was replaced by Margo Urban.
In 1989, the group released their sophomore album, "We Can't Go Wrong" which peaked at #108 on the Billboard 200 chart.
The first single, "My Heart Skips a Beat" peaked at #38 on the Billboard Hot 100 & #4 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart in October of 1989. It also peaked at #8 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart.
The title song peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March of 1990, making it their first top 10 single.
The third single, "All That Glitters Isn't Gold" peaked at #49 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #18 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart in May of 1990.

During that same year, Angel Clivillés left the group for a solo career while the group was the opening act on the New Kids on the Block tour & was replaced with Evelyn Escalera.

In 1992, Margo Urban departed from the group and was replaced with Michelle Valentine.
The group released their third album, "Here it Is" in 1992. The only original member from the group on this album was Caroline Jackson.

The first single from the album, "Funk Boutique" peaked at #55 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March of 1991, #8 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart, and #8 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart in March of 1991.
The second single from the album, a cover version of Rose Royce's song, "Wishing on a Star" peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in July of 1992, #19 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart in August of 1992, staying on the chart for 14 weeks, and #7 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart in Augut of 1992.
The third single, "Thank You" peaked at #75 on the Billboard Hot 100 in September of 1992 and #35 on Billboard's Rhythmic Top 40 chart.
The last single from the album, "If You Want My Love (Here It Is)" peaked at #8 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart in March of 1993 and #6 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart.
By 1996, the group had a new album, "Satisfy," but none of the original members were included on the album at all.

They were replaced with new singers Damie, Gayle, and Sheila. Michelle Valentine was the only original member credited as a vocalist.
The only single, "I Need Your Lovin" failed to make the charts at all. After that, the group had somewhat faded into obscurity by the late 90's.
Angel Clivillés released her solo album, "Angel" in 2000. It's unknown how or if the album made the charts.

These days, the group's current line-up consists of Evelyn Escalera, Lorraine Munoz and Sabrina Nieves.

Angel tours the United States under the name "Angel (The Original Cover Girl)." She is also the head of a dance music record label called Stylin' Free Records and is married to the founder\owner of La' Entertainment, Latif Mercado.

Caroline Jackson is married to singer Dino and lives in Las Vegas. Michelle Valentine is the founder of a boutique artist booking agency called The Epitome Group, LLC.
