The sisters started their career in the late 80s when they were teenagers, performing under the name "The Smith Reflections."
They even opened up for Tony! Toni! Tone! and member Raphael Saddiq became the girls' mentor. The sisters changed their group name to "Willie Max" after their parents' first names.
In 1998, Willie Max was signed to Raphael's record label, Pookie Records and released their only album, "Bona Fide." It's unknown how or if the album ever charted.Willie Max scored a hit with their first single "Can't Get Enough" which peaked at #49 on the Billboard Hot 100, #20 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 19 weeks and #38 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart.
