Troy Johnson

Troy Johnson (born Troy Kent Johnson in California) is a male R&B\gospel singer who got his first break when he appeared on the "Blame it on Rio" movie soundtrack in 1984 with the song, "I Must Be Doing Something Right" and later signed to Motown Records.

In 1986, Troy released his debut album, "Getting a Grip on Love" which didn't appear to chart at all. It would be his only release on Motown.
Troy scored his first charting hit with "It's You," which peaked at #65 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart in April of 1986, staying on the chart for 8 weeks.
In 1989, Troy released his sophomore album, "The Way it Is" on RCA Records which peaked at #87 on Billboard's R&B Albums chart.
The title song peaked at #14 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart in June of 1989, staying on the chart for 15 weeks, becoming his biggest hit to date.
The follow-up single, "Virgin Girl" peaked at #81 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart in March of 1990, staying on the chart for 4 weeks.

After a religious conversion, Troy moved from R&B to gospel music and put his music career on hold in the late 90's to focus on spiritual matters. Troy released two more albums "Plain and Simple" (in 1993) and "I Will" (in 1998).
In 2005, Troy returned to the music scene with his own record label, Sought After Entertainment and released his fifth self-titled album. The album featured a new version of "It's You" which peaked at #40 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart.
